Walt and others,
The other night, my electronic parking brake warning light on the dash of my 07 Passat came on and then my parking brake wouldn't engage when I was parking it.  It stayed that way for a few minutes.  After I shut off the car for a few minutes and turned it back on, the parking brake warning light went off and the brake would engage again when I pressed the button.  This was at the end of a two hour drive.    It's now been three days since that episode and the brake is working fine and the dash warning light hasn't come back on.   I should also mention that I just had my 20K service done a week and a half ago and noticed that they did add brake fluid, though they didn't say why.

In any case, my question is, should I get this checked out by the dealer?  The car is under warranty but the brake has worked fine the last three days since it happened.
Thanks.

I'd get it checked out to be safe. I believe that could even be tied to the somewhat common ESCL failures, which would essentially leave you stranded somewhere. Better safe than sorry anyway.

BTW, as brake pads wear, calipers hold more fluid, and the brake fluid level in the reservoir drops. Technically, they really shouldn't top it off, it will just make a mess whenever it comes time to replace the brake pads and recompress the calipers...but I guess it doesn't hurt...but that's why it needed topped off I'd imagine. Nothing to do with your EPB.

Took it into the dealer at your suggestion.  They diagnosed it to be a bad electronic parking brake switch and replaced it.  So far, no more problems.
Thanks for the advice.

BTW, on another topic, how much does it cost typically to replace the cam follower?  I'm thinkin I may replace mine at 30K just to preempt the premature wearing.  But I'm assuming it won't be covered under warranty.

I don`t think replacing the follower will help because you will still have the softer cam in it . It may even increase the wear on the cam being that the follower is now harder.

07 *should* have the harder cam already.
